UKRAINIAN FOLK ICONS from the Land of Shevchenko
Lidia Lykhach and Mykola Kornienko
RODOVID (2000) 232 pp. Color. Hardbound. In English and Ukrainian.
A survey of nearly two hundred different cottage icon subjects from villages
in central regions of Ukraine. These icons span nearly three hundred years,
with the majority from the nineteenth century. Icons such as these formerly
adorned virtually every village home. They were painted on wooden boards or
on linen by non-professional village masters known as bohomazy.
The research in this publication is the most detailed ever presented on Ukrainian
naive iconography.
