The journal RODOVID was established in 1991 as part of an NGO publishing house by the same name. It features scholarly articles on the cultural history of Ukraine as well as commentary on historical and cultural problems and projects. The journal's authors are, for the most part, ethnographers, musicologists, folklorists, historians, art critics, and archeologists concerned with the research of Eastern Europe in general and Ukraine in particular.

Most issues of the journal have a print run of 2,000. It is usually issued twice a year and is widely circulated among university students and faculty as well as in high schools and even primary schools. Approximately evey second issue is devoted to a special theme; for example issue no. 6 (kobzarstvo and lirnytstvo), issue no. 14 (the Chernihiv Historical Museum), issue no. 16 (Ukrainian naive painting).

To date seventeen issues have been published, with issues eighteen and nineteen in press for 2001.
