The theme is village music. Some articles utilize a standard folklore approach describing features of music practice largely as it existed before collectivization. Other articles utilize a sociological approach, analyzing material that derives from the period of communism with commentaries on how the music was changed through state control and party manipulation. One article interprets Ukrainian music culture before collectivization through the economic norms of village music practice. Articles are on Ukrainian, Jewish, Polish, and Romanian village music. There are interviews with several prominent figures in the "culture business" in Ky¿v, both Ukrainians and non-Ukrainians, describing their views of the future of arts funding in Ukraine.
