Mostly on "primitive" or naive painting in Ukraine, typically painted by village/peasant masters for home use. This topic up to now has been rarely and usually incompletely addressed. "Primitives" include pictorial representations of village scenes, landscapes, icons, and special themes such as kozak-mamai. Articles include: a comparison of theoretical systems in "primitives" and avant guarde art, articles on kozak-mamai, various articles describing regional painting styles in the Chernihiv, Poltava, and Podillia regions, and a presentation of the work of seventeen Ukrainian primitive painters. There are also articles on embroidered ceremonial towels(rushnyky) in the Chernihiv region, home industries in the Cherkasy region in the 1920-40s, village instrumental music in Polissia.
