For the first time, 250 works by highly professional and folk artists from the 13th to the early 19th centuries are being “put into scholarly circulation”. This book thereby opens a seminal new page in the study of old Ukrainian icon painting, which has earned itself a notable place in world culture (Viktor Yushchenko, Preface).

The pages of this album are a venue for Ukrainian icons from various times. As part of private collections in different Ukrainian cities – Lviv, Lutsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Cherkasy and Poltava, these artworks of great cultural value have so far been inaccessible to a broader circle of enthusiasts. Finely complementing one another, these masterpieces give a good enough idea of the milestones of old Ukrainian icon painting over 500 years – from the 13th to the junction of the 18th and 19th centuries (Oleh Sydor, Introduction).
