About the book

This collection is a reissue of of Fr. Jurij Kmit’s Sermons for Sundays and Holy Days, which was first published in 1924. His grandson, the artist Jurij Hura, initiated this publication: “After almost 100 years, the thoughts of Father Jurij Kmit, which were written during a period of struggle for Ukrainian independence, remain relevant and important for the instruction of the next generation.” Through his writings, Kmit—priest, intellectual, member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society—attracted the attention of Ivan Franko, Volodymyr Hnatiuk, Mykhailo Hrushevsky, and others. Kmit wrote literary works, scholarly articles, and criticism on works of European and world philosophy, literature, and activism. Forewords were contributed by academic Leonid Rudnytsky (USA), professor Nicholas Rudnytsky (USA), and engineer Mykhailo Horodysky (Lviv, Ukraine).
