This is the most complete study of the work of Borys Kosarev, the well-known master of the Ukrainian avant-garde from Kharkiv. Authors Tetiana Pavlova and Valentyna Chechyk are more than familiar with his artistic legacy in the theater, yet they also make a convincing argument that he was no less interesting a painter or graphic designer. Kosarev’s series of photographs, including the Sorochynsky Fair and moments from the set of Dovzhenko’s Earth for which Kosarev was the assistant DP, are a true discovery. This monograph presents the most complete and up-to-date album of the artist’s graphic design, paintings, theater work, and photographs from the 1910s, 20s, and 30s.
